1/9/2024 0 Comments Man completes longest fall![]() A world without ice is also hard to visualize, though it is by comparison a much more recent phenomenon: perhaps only thirty-four million years ago, crocodiles swam in a freshwater lake we know as the North Pole, and palm trees grew in Antarctica. A world entirely covered in ice, from pole to pole-the so-called snowball earth-is something we find it hard to get our heads around, even though the longest and oldest period of total or near-total glaciation, the Huronian glaciation, lasted for three hundred million years. ![]() That is partly because the extent of that variability is so difficult to imagine. Here, we’ve found the 12 most vibrant places to see the fall foliage in the U.S., along with recommendations on where to stay, from historic hotels to national park lodges. It is easy to forget just how variable the climate of the earth has been, across the geologic time scale. ![]() Lastly, trees in the central U.S., Gulf Coast and coastal mid-Atlantic will start to change colors in late October into early November, but their leaves are not expected to be as vibrant this year due to stress and the threat of severe weather. In mid-October, foliage in the Northeast U.S., Appalachians, Ohio Valley and Midwest will start to turn beautiful shades of orange, red and yellow. He adds, "On top of that, we could see a big change in October where some cold air can come down causing an early frost,"Īccuweather's fall foliage forecast predicts that the best time to see the leaves change in New England, the Upper Midwest and the Rocky Mountains will be in late September and early October. The report notes that severe weather events could blow the leaves off of already-stressed trees, making them less full and vibrant during peak season. "The aspens should come out looking really good in late September to mid-October," Pastelok adds.Īs far as where to skip this year? Pastelok says that scorching summer weather put a strain on trees in southern states from Texas to Alabama, and even north into states such as Illinois and Indiana. The weather leading up to the autumnal season plays a huge part in how vivid leaves will be, and this year's sizzling summer means that foliage may not be as vibrant in certain states.ĪccuWeather Senior Meteorologist and Long-Range Expert Paul Pastelok says the best destinations for fall foliage will be "across the Northeast, the Great Lakes in the upper Midwest and then even the West." So, leaf-peeping destinations like Vermont and Minnesota should be safe bets, but under-the-radar spots like the Rocky Mountains, Cascades and Appalachians will also provide plenty of beautiful color. If you're not sure where you want to go to see the leaves change, or when exactly you should plan your trip, Accuweather just released a report predicting the top places to see fall foliage in the U.S. Taking a flight or road trip to see the most beautiful fall foliage in America, even if you live in an area that boasts its own impressive display, is a wonderful way to celebrate the autumnal wonders. ![]() After all, decorating for fall or creating a fall floral arrangement are not the only ways to welcome the season. Though, leaf peepers will be the first to tell you there's no time for sadness when the trees around us start exploding with reds, yellows, and oranges. As long warm days of summer start winding down, some may start to mourn the end of alfresco dining and breezy living. ![]() 1/9/2024 0 Comments Mezcal jalapeno margarita![]() ![]() It has a balanced blend of smoky and sweet flavors, made with fresh smashed pineapple chunks, jalapeno slices, tart lime juice, agave nectar, and smoky mezcal. If you don’t drink alcohol, this cocktail is really yummy without it too. The Charred Pineapple and Jalapeno Mezcal Smash is a unique and flavorful cocktail that is perfect for those who want to try something new. The smokiness of the mezcal with the sweetness of the watermelon is phenomenal! A couple of slices of spicy jalepeño pepper and a squeeze of lime balance the whole thing out. However, this simple mezcal watermelon margarita is 100% easy to make, and requires no special skills. Especially those made with mezcal or tequila. To be honest, cocktails kind of intimidate me. Tamarind is used in plenty of cuisines, including Thai, Indian, and Mexican. We fight this by leaving a nice gap between our car and the one in front, but you also know you will just see another car slide in when you least expect it.īy all means leave off that passenger side mirror. Drive enough and you know what can happen in a split second, don't kid yourself. But I also know damned well I have to crane my head and look around, and that means not looking at the road for second. I am fully aware of how to drive without that mirror and I reckon I might have more experience than half the people here doing just that. Despite my decades of experience daily driving cars with no passenger mirrors, I 100% wish for a passenger side mirror on my C2 every time I drive it. You can get away with not having one, but nobody can seriously argue that roads today are the way they were in 1967 and so is the traffic volume. With today's roads not to mention the lunatics populating them, "never needing" a C2 passenger mirror is an echo of the past and I don't like that it's not 1970 or 1965 pick your year anymore either. Instantly I was a better, safer driver in all situations. It's weird that I had to get a job driving a delivery vehicle before this was taught to me. The three mirrors also work so that a car overtaking you is in both the rear and side mirror at the same time before you lose it in peripheral vision. ![]() However, that's what you're supposed to do and it's just not taught very often. You just don't want to change what you do. "It's uncomfortable" or "I don't need to" is bull you're not fooling me lol. When you need to see the side of your car, you lean a little to the left or right. Your rear quarter isn't running away if you don't see it. The driver needs to see the lane beside the car when looking at the side mirror. I'd say 85 to 90 percent of people see the side of their cars when they flick their eyes to their side mirrors. ![]() I can look that driver in the eye in his driver-side mirror when behind the driver's car and that's my tip-off. But most people don't position their mirrors correctly. ![]() The system's goal is to eliminate blind spots. Wind rain snow and shine, on highways and byways and back-roads and dirt roads once too.īut to be frank, the side mirrors plural and the inside mirror are used together. Many miles on any type of road or highway. Passenger mirrors weren't standard on some cars in the US until the 1980s. ![]() We will see.Ĭ2s didn't have passenger mirrors because roads in the US (as well as law) simply didn't necessitate them.at the time the cars were built that is. I am toying with the idea of a back up camera tied into the gps-instead of using a rverse switch I will just wire it so that if the ignition in on the camera works. I filled and painted the holes and never got around to re-installing it but I really do want to do it. I would recommend that when you do the install, to have someone position the mirror while you sit in the driver's seat and then move it back and fort until you fond the spot. I measured with the greatest of care and as soon as I sat in the car I almost puked.įor the C1 it has to be about a 1 1/2 inches farther back, otherwise, the windshield frame is precisely in the center of the morror and you can not adjust it to do you any good. I can not speak to a C2 install but I CAN say that IF you install one in exactly the same place on a C1(62 for ex) it WILL be in EXCACTLY the WORST place possible. Any other place will look like Bubba installed it. If you do install one, ensure to put it in the same spot as on the left (as best you can). The location is precisely the same as the factory mirror on the left side. I'm quite sure that mine was a dealer installed accessory. ![]() ![]() Get plenty of rest: Make sure to get plenty of rest before your driving test so that you are alert and focused during the exam. And it was only because cooler heads prevailed that nuclear weapons were not used deliberately during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 or amid the Vietnam War when military leaders urged their use. Even before the emergence of cyberthreats, there were many instances of near launches by technical or human error. A cyberattack on nuclear weapons control systems, for example, could create false warnings of launches or perhaps even initiate real launches. New technologies threaten the abilities of governments to control and secure nuclear weapons. Nearly 2,000 warheads are on alert status, ready to launch within minutes of an order. Currently, there are more than 9,000 nuclear warheads in the active military stockpiles of nine nations, with more than 90% of those in Russia and the United States. The existence of nuclear weapons means that they can be used, and this threat is getting more severe as the number of possible scenarios leading to nuclear war rises. A new coalition is working to do just that.
